An Alternative to your standard drip coffee maker.

A French Press;   One of the easiest alternatives to a drip machine is a French press . Coffee from a French press generally tastes stronger and to many better because the ground beans actually steep in the hot water, giving the water more time to pull more of the flavor from the beans. French presses are also simple to use, just boil water, grind the beans, stir them together in the French press , and wait. The waiting part is the hardest part.   One of the top French presses on the market is the SterlingPro press, a simple, attractive press that makes great-tasting, full-bodied coffee. Unlike most French presses , it uses a double-screen filter, so you have less of a chance to finding coffee grounds at the bottom of your mug or cup. It’s also easy to take apart and clean when you’re done.

Poly wants a cracker and a decaf. Parrot causes auto crash in Pennsylvania.

Poly wants a cracker or an espresso.       Pennsylvania police say a woman lays the blames for a recent auto crash on her coffee-drinking pet parrot.  The coffee addicted parrot distracted her moments before she crashed her car into a guardrail. Troopers from Uniontown say the woman was driving on a South Union Township road just before 5 p.m. Tuesday when she was distracted by the bird pecking at the lid of her coffee cup. The woman says this distraction led to the accident. The woman told police that the bird likes to drink coffee with its bird seed. The bird seed was found in a cup holder next to the coffee along with  a few feathers nearby. Police say the woman suffered a broke her arm and has facial cuts because her air bag deployed. The bird was safely removed from the vehicle. No word on if the coffee was decaf or not.

Coffee with the Clintons.

You are in your favorite booth at the local coffee shop. When who walks thro the door? Black tie, white shirt, pin stripe jacket.  Are they filming a new Men in Black episode? Is your first thought.    You slide the window drape to one side and what do you see?  A small army of well dressed men and one somewhat familiar face.   The door swings open and your suspicions are confirmed, it's her... Hillary Clinton. She makes her way thro the room shaking hands offering warm good morning greetings to all she meets.    Your a republican....You voted for Mitt...You have your Tea Party hat on....Your hunting rifle in on the rifle rack in the cab of your truck.    She is coming your way....oh no....you have eye contact. Miss Clinton offer you her hand saying how she much admires you hat. As you shake hands you complement her on her pants suit. A laugh fills the air. With a light chuckle  Miss Clinton continues to the next booth .   Your coffee has grown cold as ice from the chil

Dunkin Donuts owner says no tips!

Is it a common courtesy to tip your server at a restaurant? A  Massachusetts Supreme Judicial Court says no.   If you are leaving tips at your you favorite coffee shop for the server. That tip may not go to the server it could go right to the owner.   It's legal in Massachusetts. A group of 3 Dunkin Donuts employees sued their franchise owner over a no-tipping policy in 2011. But on Friday, they lost their case.   Massachusetts Supreme Judicial Court ruled that restaurant owners can ban tips by imposing a no-tipping policy.      The company policy must be “clearly communicated” to everyone including all employees. The franchise owner told the court she’s posted “thank you for not tipping” signs in 22 of the 66 Dunkin’ Donuts she owns.    Any money left by customers goes into an “abandoned change” cup, which is the same idea as a “take-a-penny-leave-a-penny” tray. Owners can keep the extra money for themselves.

Hillary Clinton and your local coffee shop.

Hillary Clinton is announcing her run for the presidency today Sunday April 12. So what's new about that you say? Not much really. The announcement it self is not news and not even how the announcement is being made. Twitter/Facebook/Social media of all kinds are as good of a method as an interview on one of the Sunday talk shows.   So where does the Clinton campaign go from here? Your local coffee shop is the short answer to that. The Clinton campaign is targeting small local coffee shops for her meet and greet with the public. So for those of you who own or operate the local coffee shop this could be a blessing or a curse. Do you offer your shop as a Clinton stop and reap the benefits of the free national attention. Or is the security sweep that will happen, be worth it?

One more entry into the water filter wars. Naked Filter

A Californian company with the name "Liquidity" today says that its “Naked Filter” water bottle/filter is now available for pre-order. The bottle/filter is an easy and low cost way to remove microorganisms from water. In addition Liquidity says that the Naked Filter has been in research for more than 15 years with the result of “a new solution for water filtration.”   The startup claims that Naked Filter can eliminate well over 99.99% of  bacteria and protozoan cysts for as long as the filter lasts. When the filter’s is do to be replaced, the water will no longer pass through the filter. This tells the user that it’s time to change it with a new filter.    Just pour water into the bottle and screw on the cap. When you drink water out of the bottle it will pass through the filter and automatically be purified.   Liquidity is running the pre-order campaign on Kickstarter and it’s looking to raise $40,000.  Pledging $10 now will give backers one bottle and one filter.
