UK looking to have a disposal fee on that paper coffee cup.

We have all seen the disposal fee on the old tires we have replace and the used oil when we have an oil change. Now at least in Great Britain it's that paper cup that is up next for a disposal fee.    Prof Wouter Poortinga said some 2.5 billion disposable cups are used annually.  The findings are due to be submitted to a   UK government inquiry into waste . "Our results show that, on average, the use of reusable coffee cups could be increased by up to 12.5% with a combination of measures," a disposal fee in other words. Prof Poortinga said.   "People are far more sensitive to losses than to gains when making decisions - so if we really want to change a customer's behavior then a charge on a disposable cup is more likely to be effective."  Every one wants a clean environment. The cost of the disposal of your one use cup is already in the price you just payed for that $4.99 Grande from Starbucks or Dunkin Donuts. This additional fee is ...

A conversation over heard at the local coffee shop.

I was in the local coffee shop yesterday and over heard an interesting conversation with the Barista. Barista; Can I help you? Costumer; One large coffee please. Barista; That will be $4.99. Costumer; I couldn't help but notice your Trump campaign button. May I ask why? Barista; I work here part time to pay my bills. I go to college and live in my parents basement.   I don't need anyone's else's money. I am smart enough to know nothing is free. Costumer; But what about the top 1%? The rich are getting richer and the poor are getting poorer. Like you and me. Barista; Is that an iPhone 10? Costumer; Yes. Barista; An Apple watch? Costumer; Yes. What's your point? Barista; You just spent $4.99 on 25 cents worth of coffee, some hot water and 50 cents for a cup and a lid. If your not in the 1% you Shure spend money like you are. Costumer; I see your point.

Donald Trump cups go up for sale. There are not cheap but neither is Donald.

Forget  the normal campaign buttons and yard signage Donald Trump is giving Solo cups a run for their money with his "campaign party cups" in his online store.   The 16-ounce cups  resemble Solo cups, a brilliant Trump move to get the collage frat boy vote. Trump's slogan-stamped cups cost $3.  Not cheap but if you want to drink with the Donald you have to pay the price..      Trump's cups are "proudly made in USA," showing his "make America great again!" is more than a slogan.  If you prefer drinking you adult beverage straight from the can, Trump is also selling koozies to keep your favorite beer or limearita cool on these last days of summer. A 6-pack of these goes for only $20.    Lets not forget Jeb Bush, he has turned to the kitchen to earn campaign dollars also. Jeb has a   $75 guacamole bowl   "Guaca Bowle"

Coffee and your IPhone. There's an app for that.

It's a typical busy day the pointless text's and e-mails are never ending. What to do next you ask yourself. Pay the mortgage or update your facebook page.  The IPhone beckons you once again....this could be important tho...your House of Cards ring tone means high priority.  Unable to fill your request.. the message begins. Water level low. Is this a joke you first think. But then it comes to you. That new MR Coffee app you installed last week. Your coffee will not be ready when you do finally do make it home. What a way to end the week you mumble to yourself.  You take a deep breath and prepare to finish out your day in peace.... but no. Like a baby needing changing your IPhone cries out the Empire Strikes Back sound track. Great your think ..the boss.  Will it ever end?

Starbuck to do delivery in NYC and Seattle this summer.

Starbucks fans in New York City will soon be able to have their iced lattes delivered right to their door or office. It has been said that Starbucks plans to start a delivery service in Seattle and New York City later this year. The Seattle service will cover homes and offices, but only office buildings will be served in New York, starting with the Empire State Building. Orders will have to be made online only. There will be no minimum purchase required, but a delivery fee will apply. Starbucks says it expects the average delivery time to be 30 minutes from placing the order. So is a cup of Starbucks coffee worth the cost of the coffee, delivery fee, tax, and tip? And you thought K cups were expensive.

Starbucks in the hot seat over spilled hot coffee.

Yet one more law suit over spilled hot coffee. Matthew Kohr a Raleigh North Carolina police officer received a "free" cup of coffee at the Starbucks on Peace Street in January 2012, only to have the lid popped off and the cup folded in on itself, according to the lawsuit.    Kohr said he poured cold water on the burn, but the pain only intensified. Kohr claims his injuries aggravated his Crohn's disease, and resulted in surgery to remove a portion of his intestine.   The incident, according to the lawsuit, also caused Kohr's wife, Melanie, the loss of a "source of emotional support, her social companion and her intimate partner." Kohr is seeking compensation, including damages, attorney fees and medical costs, totaling more than $10,000. The coffee maker also mentioned that the coffee was given to Kohr free of charge and that the officer "was negligent in his use of the product."

Clear Styrofoam cups for your coffee?

Is a clear Styrofoam cup in your future? Most likely at some point. The standard Styrofoam cup comes in all colors and art work know to man except one, clear. Now I am not talking clear plastic but true Styrofoam.  "Caution contents HOT" has real meaning when served in a standard plastic cup clear or other wise.   Plastic cups have little no insulation property's and that paper sleeve is little help. Why clear you ask? Your coffee will taste better, really. Test have given us this insight into the human mind. Trendy cup have been hitting the news lately like the KFC's Cookie cup. Cups with seed in them. Bio degradable cups and so on and so on. It is only a mater of time before a clear Styrofoam cup comes to market. With consumers willing to pay high dollar for  K cups. A new trendy clear Styrofoam cup will be an instant hit. But will they get the feel right?

Does how your coffee cup feels effect the taste?

The difference is clear. The color, or lack of it, does effect what your coffee tastes like.   People given the exact same coffee only in different colored cups did express a difference in taste. Black cups got the response that the coffee was bitter. The coffee in white cups were said to be flat and low in flavor. Other assorted colors resulted in similar results with the darker colors leaning toward a bitter taste and lighter color cups were line with a white cup.  The clear winner in this test is a clear cup. A large majority of the test subjects said that the coffee in the clear cup tasted the most like the coffee they drank blind folded.  However there appears to be other cup selections missing from this test. That paper, metal, plastic, or other of the countless materials coffee cups are made of today.   It's not only the color of the cup that appears to make a difference as to how the coffee taste but what the cup feels like ...

Antioxidants and your coffee.

Coffee is not just caffeine  there are hundreds of other compounds in there as well, many of which science has yet to identify.   Many of these compounds are antioxidants that protect our bodies from oxidation, which involves those nasty free radicals that damage molecules in your body.    Oxidation is said to be one of the mechanisms behind ageing and diseases like cancer and heart disease.   Coffee, are you ready for this, happens to be the biggest source of antioxidants in the Western diet , outranking both  fruits and vegetables put together.   When you’re having your daily cup or cups of coffee, you’re not only getting caffeine but a whole bunch of other beneficial compounds, including powerful antioxidants.

Coffee from a clear mug tastes best....Some say.

Think your coffee tastes extra bitter today? You may want to switch mugs. The color of your cup may be affecting the taste of your morning brew, says a new study.     The idea for the study was inspired by a barista who overheard customers claiming they thought coffee drunk from a white mug tasted more bitter than drinking from a clear glass container.  Researchers conducted a series of experiments where participants drank coffee from white, clear and blue mugs and were then asked to analyze taste.  The study found that coffee drunk from a white cup tastes “significantly more intense”—aka less sweet and more bitter—than drinking from a clear or blue mug. The reason?  People tend to associate color with flavor and white is associated with bitterness. The brown color of the coffee “contrasts” significantly with a white drinking cup. Conversely, drinking from a clear cup enhances a drink’s “perceived sweetness.” Blue mugs apparently amplify both swe...

Clean your coffee maker. You know it need's it!

If your morning cup of joe isn't tasting as good as usual, the problem could be a dirty coffee pot. Glass or stainless steel carafes should be cleaned after every use to prevent the oily build-up that makes coffee bitter. Wash in warm soapy water or in the dishwasher on the top rack. If pot is stained, fill it with equal parts water and white vinegar, allow it soak for 15-20 minutes, then wash.  Using filtered water is a huge help in keeping you coffee maker clean. Distilled water is what I use as it "softer" than even bottled of just filtered water.

K-Cups are killing the planet

The waste production of the K-Cup, the non-recyclable, single-serve coffee pods that Keurig machines use, has long been noted. Keurig Green Mountain pledged to create a full recyclable version of its main product by 2020, but estimates say that the Keurig pods buried in 2014 would already circle the Earth 12 times.   Meanwhile, the Keurig’s popularity has made it ever more ubiquitous, bringing it to offices and homes across the country. The company sold a total of 9.8 billion Keurig-brewed portion packs last year, which include the new multiple-cup pods.

What is a Scoffee cup? A coffee cup made of cookie. Comming soon to a U.K. KFC close to you.

KFC has joined forces with The Robin Collective's U.K. food scientists to create the "Scoffee" cups. The Scoffee cups are cookie cups that are "wrapped in sugar paper and lined with a layer of  white chocolate," the U.K. press is saying today. The cup has an outer wrapper with the KFC's logo, on it so the cup looks just like a regular like coffee cup   Scoffee cups sound nice in theory, until you hear about their "aromas": A spokesperson for The Robin Collective told the U.K. Press that the cups are infused with scents including "Coconut Sun Cream, Freshly Cut Grass, and Wild Flowers." The scents are meant to send the "positive memories associated with warm weather,"   For now, at least, the Scoffee cups will only be available at KFC locations in the U.K.  The cups have yet to be released tho. With a launch date of this summer at selected U.K. KFC locations.
